NEW MOUNT SAINT VINCENT GRADUATE PROGRAM SCHOLARSHIP The College of Mount Saint Vincent has announced a new graduate program Serviam Scholarship for all civil servants in good standing for the 2018-2019 academic school year. Open to active and retired firefighters, recipients of this award will receive $1,500 a semester to put towards the tuition of any graduate program offered at the College of Mount Saint Vincent. Both part-time and full-time students are eligible for this award. The award is a one-time grant of $1,000. Eligibility is as follows: · Active Firefighters and Fire Officers who have been accepted or are attending an accredited institution of higher learning · Firefighters/Fire Officers pursuing a degree in Fire Service Administration, Public Service Management, Nursing or a related Fire Service discipline and who have completed a minimum of twelve credits. · Written statement of 500 words explaining why an applicant should be considered for the award. Applications are due by April 27, 2018. The winner of the award will be announced mid-June. Applications can be obtained by emailing Jacqueline Merveil, FDNY Registrar/Academic Advisor at jacqueline.merveil@fdny.nyc.gov or by calling 718-281-8465.   JAMES B. BOYLAN SCHOLARSHIP AWARD APPLICATION Applications for the annual James B. Boylan Scholarship Award are now available and can be obtained via email to Mr. Robert Gullickson at rjgullickson@gmail.com. This scholarship is offered to children of Firefighters/Fire Officers (active and retired) entering a Catholic High School on Staten Island. The amount of the award is $7,000. Applications are due by May 1, 2018. The winner will be announced at the annual Lt. Joe Gullickson Picnic on June 30, 2018. These grants shall be awarded for various types of schooling – academic, technical or a personal interest course. Submissions will be accepted through June 15th, 2018. Eligibility is restricted to members of the Uniformed Firefighting Force, from Probationary Firefighters to Chief Officers, including Fire Marshals, Supervising Fire Marshals, Marine Engineers, Pilots and Wipers.   • Pews will be reserved for Golden Jubilee couples and one (1) family/friend to provide any needed assistance. Additional guests will be accommodated in pews outside the reserved section.
  • All Golden Jubilee couples will receive a commemorative certificate.
  • Couples who are unable to attend the Mass can request a certificate through their parish.

PARADE OF HEROES TO HONOR LT. MICHAEL DAVIDSON On Saturday, April 28, 2018, the annual Parade of Heroes and St. Baldrick’s head-shaving fundraiser will be held in Floral Park to help raise money towards childhood cancer research. This year’s Parade of Heroes will honor the memory of Floral Park’s own Lt. Michael Davidson, whose ultimate sacrifice will never be forgotten. Members of Lt. Davidson’s firehouse will be marching in the Parade of Heroes with his banner. We are asking that our members join the Parade of Heroes march to honor Lt. Davidson and support his family and the Floral Park community, as they continue to mourn the loss of a true hero. Members of the FDNY can also shave their heads in an effort to find a cure for pediatric cancer. The link to register is https://www.stbaldricks.org/events/Trinity2018. Participating members are asked to assemble at One Floral Boulevard, Floral Park, NY 11001 at 12:30 PM. The Parade of Heroes begins at 1:40 PM at Floral Park Village Hall. The Local 3 Pipe and Drum band, Sword of Light, will lead the Parade of Heroes as the children are given a ride to the event on firetrucks or police cars. The children participating in the event will be dropped off at the Trinity Bar and Restaurant at 1:55 PM, where the St. Baldrick’s head-shave event is held. The town appreciates your support in this event to honor Lt. Davidson’s memory, and all FDNY members, family and friends are welcome to attend.
94TH ANNUAL COMMUNION MASS AND BREAKFAST The Fire Department Holy Name Society, Manhattan, Bronx, and Staten Island, will hold its 94th Annual Communion Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, on Sunday, April 29, 2018, at The Cardinal Mass at 1015 hours.  The breakfast will follow at the New York Hilton Hotel, on 6th Avenue and 53rd Street, at 1130 hours. During the breakfast, the Holy Name Society will honor two outstanding men; Robert R. Turner, First Deputy Commissioner, retired, and Lieutenant James G. McCarthy, Ladder 25, UFOA Treasurer. The Father Mychal Judge Humanitarian Award will be presented to Lieutenant Thomas F. O’Connor, Engine 302, Family Assistance Unit, retired. Donations:  $65.00 per person. Wives and children are cordially invited. Members are requested to attend in uniform.
