FIRED UP FOR A CURE The FDNY Bureau of Health Services and the World Trade Center Health Program’s Cancer Awareness & Prevention Initiative FIRED UP for a CURE is asking that each company and station join in a friendly competition and donate $1 per member/per meal for the month of April. At the end of the month, the donations can be sent to FDNY WTC Oncology; 9 MetroTech Center, Rm. 2E-07 – Brooklyn, NY 11201. The winning company/station will be presented with a trophy for all of their efforts at the Free Family Picnic on Saturday, June 09, 2018, at Fort Totten. Over the past 4 years, FIRED UP for a CURE in partnership with the FDNY Foundation, the American Cancer Society, the Fire Family Transport Foundation and several other organizations have been strong in giving families affected by cancer financial and emotional support; as well as hope that one day we will find a cure. Through fundraising events, over $300,000 has been successfully raised to help aid in these efforts.   HEROES DAY The 2nd annual Heroes Day honoring active and retired first responders and military personnel will be held at Quassy Amusement Park on Saturday, May 12, 2018. A free all-day ride pass will be given to each hero, plus one additional family member. There is also a special discounted ride pass of $13.99 for family and friends available online only. Heroes Day is held to honor active and retired law enforcement, paramedics, firemen and other emergency service agencies, as well as military personnel. Valid agency, department or military ID is required to receive the free ride passes at Quassy. Discount tickets are pre-sale only and will not be sold the day of the event at the park. For more information, visit Quassy.com or call 1-800-FOR-PARK.   FIREHOUSE CHILI COOK-OFF TO BENEFIT FRIENDS OF FIREFIGHTERS On Friday, April 27th, at Brooklyn’s The Invisible Dog, join Friends of Firefighters for a lively evening of chili tasting, merrymaking, music, and fundraising. Sponsored by Rockaway’s Cuisine by Claudette, with live music by Staten Island rock trio Radio Flyerz, this fun and delicious event will feature firehouses from around the five boroughs as they toss in their ladles to impress guests with their best chili dish. Enjoy raffle prizes and the opportunity to bid on striking NYC photographs by talented fire department enthusiasts, with all proceeds going toward the continuation of programs and services at Friends of Firefighters. Tickets will be available at the door for $30, or you can purchase them here for an early bird discount.
