The War is Over

The War is Over
by Sean Maguire

The war, had a painful end,
killing what passed for life.

Peace, posed as a new friend,
white flags signalled, bitter strife.

Bullets lodged in broken bones,
gunfire dwells in lame minds.

Lonely hearts bleed,
on gravestones;

the dead tread gently along battle
lines.

➽Seán Maguire has been writing poetry, song lyrics, short stories and non-fiction for over thirty years and has had a considerable amount of his work published in magazines, newspapers, anthologies and online blogs. The above poem is taken from his collection For Those Left Behind.
